Zach was an unabashed enthusiast of insects and other small creatures at a young age. He frequently snuck them into his bedroom and was once delighted when he successfully hatched several hundred praying mantises from an egg sack – his mother, not so much.

Fortunately his interests began to include photography where he seemed to have a natural ability and a keen eye. He won his first award at the age of 12 and since then he has been widely recognized for his work, both locally and nationally.

Having grown up on the island of Maui, Zach is acutely aware of the precariousness of native species and the increasing threat of

extinction. He is honored that The Nature Conservancy of Hawaii has allowed him to photograph extensively in some of their remote preserves and has collected footage of many rare and endangered species. He hopes that his work brings awareness to the special ecosystems that exist in the Hawaiian Islands and around the world.

Now considered one of Hawaii's finest photographers, Zach’s photographs have appeared in numerous juried competitions. He is also a regular contributor to magazines, books, and other publications. Recently, one of his photographs received the top Juror’s Choice Award and was subsequently purchased by the Hawaii State Foundation for Culture and Arts for their permanent collection.

Zach is a graduate of the prestigious School of Photographic Arts and Sciences at the Rochester Institute of Technology in upstate New York where he received a Bachelor of Science degree, cum laude, in Photographic and Imaging Technologies.
